The Bioinnovation for Africa Pitching Workshop and Competition was created by JR Biotek Foundation to identify and celebrate innovations made to improve lives and systems in Africa. The first Bioinnovation Competition was held at our inaugural African Diaspora Biotech Summit at Cambridge University (4 April 2017). It provided a unique platform for seven finalists (researchers and PhD students) from Africa who had been involved in our Molecular Laboratory Training Workshop in Cambridge 8 days before the Summit to pitch their innovative ideas to a panel of expert judges.

One finalist, Ms. Bolaji Thanni from the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Nigeria won “The Most Promising Innovation Award” and we continue to support the candidates to further develop their innovative products and services.
